Jane Kromm

Jane Kromm is a Professor of Art History at Purchase College, affiliated with the School of Humanities. She chairs the Museum Studies Minor and teaches courses such as Women Artists and Feminist Criticism, The Caravaggio Effect, and Madness and Modernism.

• Education: BS (Wheelock College), MDiv (Harvard Divinity School), PhD (Emory University)

Her research focuses on European art from 1550–1800, feminist critique, women artists, and the visual representation of madness. She explores architectural contexts of hostels/hospitals and spatial dynamics in Dutch art.

Recent publications analyze madness in visual culture, gendered spatial economies, and feminist reinterpretations of early modern narratives. Her work often bridges art history with literary and cultural studies.
