About
Dr. Jane Gaultney is a Professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Her research focuses on sleep disorders and their impact on cognition, behavior, and health outcomes across lifespan development. She holds a Ph.D. in Cognitive Developmental Psychology from Florida Atlantic University.
Her work examines sleep's role in ADHD, academic performance, memory, motivation, and risk-taking behaviors, particularly among children, adolescents, and college students. Key areas include sleep hygiene's relationship with mental health, metabolic syndrome risks, and gender disparities in sleep attitudes and behaviors.
Dr. Gaultney’s recent studies emphasize sleep’s longitudinal effects on metabolic health and visceral fat accumulation in young adults, as well as the epidemiology of sleep disturbances in neurodevelopmental disorders like Down syndrome. Her findings highlight sleep as a critical predictor for both psychological and physiological health outcomes.
Publications consistently address sleep’s intersections with public health, mental health, and chronic disease management, advocating evidence-based interventions to address sleep-related disparities.
