Jane Cooley Fruehwirth is a Professor of Economics at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (UNC). She is affiliated with UNC’s Carolina Population Center as a fellow and serves as an adjunct professor in Public Policy. Additionally, she is a Research Associate of the NBER’s Economics of Education Working Group, an affiliate of the Institute for Research on Poverty and the Human Capital and Economic Opportunity Global Working Group, and a member of the Stone Center for Research on Wealth Inequality and Mobility.
Her research focuses on the economics of education and social economics. She explores topics such as peer effects, desegregation, grade retention, accountability policies, and interventions to improve outcomes for disadvantaged youth. Recent work examines how teachers influence peer spillovers and addresses adolescent mental health through school-based interventions.
