Jan Sladek is a Professor of Applied Mechanics at Slovak Technical University (2006-2016) and Head of the Department of Mechanics at the Institute for Construction and Architecture, Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS), Bratislava, Slovakia (2005–present). He has held visiting/research positions at Cornell University, Northwestern University, Shinshu University, University of California (Los Angeles, Irvine), University of London (Queen Mary College), and University of Siegen.

Professional Leadership involves directorship roles at the Institute for Construction and Architecture (SAS) and editorial contributions as Associate Editor of one journal and board member of eight others.
