About
Jan Oyebode is a Professor and Chair in Dementia Care at the University of Bradford's Centre for Applied Dementia Studies (CDS), part of the Faculty of Health Studies. His work focuses on supporting people with dementia, particularly those from diverse ethnic backgrounds and individuals with young-onset dementia (YOD). He has held leadership roles in NHS clinical psychology and co-led the University Birmingham Clinical Psychology Doctorate before joining Bradford in 2013.
Research Interests: His research explores family relationships in dementia, cultural diversity's impact on care, and clinical interventions for YOD. Key projects include the DYNAMIC study (social care improvement), YOD-CARE (clinical and psychosocial support), and the Angela Project (post-diagnostic care). He also leads the National Steering Group’s Research Workstream for Young Onset Dementia Network.
Advising & Grants: Jan supervises PhD students investigating dementia care in South Asian, Irish, African-Caribbean, and Chinese communities. He co-leads the Carecoach and SIDECAR-Implementation studies, and is the Bradford lead for the DEFIN-YD initiative. Notable grants include ESRC-funded RHAPSODY (online caregiver intervention) and NIHR School for Social Care Research projects.
Labs/Teams: His primary affiliation is the Centre for Applied Dementia Studies, a multidisciplinary hub addressing dementia care challenges through applied research.
