Jan-Michael Simon is a Senior Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law. His research focuses on criminality of the powerful in Latin America—particularly grand corruption—and its impact on political systems, human rights, and international security. Additional areas include the interplay between punishment and fundamental rights, transitional justice in post-conflict societies, and justice sector reforms. He has contributed to UN and OAS missions and leads technical cooperation programs for justice reforms.
He holds honorary professorships at Hermilio Valdizán National University and Catholic University of Santa María in Peru.
