Jan Lin is a Professor of Sociology at Occidental College, where he has taught since 1998. His research focuses on urban sociology, race and ethnicity, globalization, and gentrification in Los Angeles. He holds a B.A. from Williams College, an M.S. from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a Ph.D. from The New School for Social Research.

Jan Lin has led grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (1999-2003) and collaborated on National Science Foundation projects comparing Korean American and Chinese American urban communities.
