Jan Culik

Dr. Jan Culik is a Senior Lecturer in Czech at the University of Glasgow's School of Modern Languages & Cultures, where he has established himself as a leading expert in Czech literature, cinema, and contemporary society. His academic career spans several decades with significant contributions to Central and Eastern European studies.

His research interests focus on Emigré Czech Literature (1971-1989), Contemporary Czech Literature, Czech Cinema since 1989, and contemporary Czech media, society and politics. His scholarly work demonstrates a deep engagement with both historical and current political developments in the Czech Republic and Central Europe more broadly.

Culik's publications reveal a consistent focus on cultural and political analysis of Czech society, with recent work examining film festivals, contemporary authors, political figures like Robert Fico and Miloš Zeman, and the Ukraine conflict.
