Jan Case

Dr. Jan Case serves as the Department Head of the Mathematical, Computing, & Information Sciences (MCIS) Department at Jacksonville State University (JSU). With over 40 years of experience in teaching mathematics and statistics, she leads the MCIS department while maintaining active involvement in curriculum development and instruction. Her expertise spans general mathematics through calculus, statistics, and probability education.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree with teaching certificates in mathematics and English from the University of Alabama - Birmingham (1981)
• Master's in applied mathematics from Louisiana Tech University (1983)
• Doctorate in statistical methods with a focus on curriculum and instruction from Mississippi State University (1987)
• MBA Foundation Program equivalent to a general business degree (2001)

Research Interests: Dr. Case focuses on the impact of evolving technology on educational instruction, from historical tools like punch cards to modern advancements like 5G. She advocates for best practices in developmental education to enhance student success. Her work bridges statistical methodology with pedagogical innovation.

Her role includes strategic planning for the department’s curriculum and resources. Outside academia, she enjoys outdoor activities like hiking the Ladiga Trail and exploring Terrapin Creek.
