Jan Awrejcewicz

Prof. Jan Awrejcewicz is a full professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Lodz University of Technology, where he has been employed since 1997. He serves as the founding head of the Department of Automation, Biomechanics, and Mechatronics since 1996. His career began at Lodz University of Technology, where he earned his M.Sc. (1977), Ph.D. (1981), postdoctoral degree (1990), and professorship (1994). He also holds a philosophy degree from the University of Lodz (1978).

Research Interests: Prof. Awrejcewicz specializes in nonlinear dynamics, bifurcation theory, chaos phenomena, biomechanics, and mechatronics. His work bridges theoretical mechanics with practical applications in vibration control, automation, and biomedical engineering. He has pioneered research in asymptotic methods, discontinuous systems, and engineering biomechanics.

Awards & Recognition:

• Recipient of the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Award (2011)
• Recipient of Poland's national awards including the Złota Lampa (2006) and Mistrz (2009)
• Decorated with the Officer's Cross of the Order of Poland's Rebirth (2012)

Academic Leadership & Service:

• Organizer of the international conference series Dynamical Systems – Theory and Applications held biennially in Łódź (12 editions)
• Member of the Central Commission for Degrees and Titles (2013–2016)
• Vice President of the Polish Society of Biomechanics (2012–2014)

Professional Contributions: He has supervised 20 doctoral and 5 postdoctoral theses, authored/co-authored 45 monographs, and published over 300 journal articles. He edits the Journal of Modeling, Simulation, Identification and Control and has reviewed 39 monographs and 35 habilitation works.
