About
Jamison Kantor is an Associate Professor of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century British literature at The Ohio State University, primarily based at the Mansfield campus. His research focuses on Romantic literature, the Black diaspora, and intersections between materialism, technology, and political movements like Marxism and Liberalism. He holds a PhD from the University of Maryland (2013), an MA from the University of Virginia (2007), and a BA from Skidmore College (2004).
His first book, Honor, Romanticism, and the Hidden Value of Modernity (Cambridge, 2022), examines how Romantic concepts of honor intersect with modern political abstractions. Current projects include a book on automation and historical inevitability in 18th- and 19th-century art. Kantor also writes critically on film, analyzing political themes in works like The Favourite.
His scholarly contributions appear in Critical Inquiry, PMLA, and The Eighteenth Century: Theory and Interpretation. He teaches at all levels and emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to literature and culture.
