About
Jamie Yates Findlay
Associate Professor of Linguistics at the University of Oslo, affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities and the Department of Linguistics and Scandinavian Studies. His work focuses on computational and mathematical approaches to syntax and semantics, particularly exploring mismatches between syntactic structures and semantic interpretations. Current research includes multiword expressions, lexical representation in formal grammars (e.g., Lexical Functional Grammar and Glue Semantics), and sociolinguistic dimensions of language use related to gender and sexuality.
Education: PhD from University of Oxford, followed by lectureships at Oxford before joining UiO.

- Multiword expressions, lexicon design
- Sociolinguistics and discourse analysis
- Interaction of language with gender/sexuality
- Formal grammatical frameworks (LFG, Dependency Grammar)
Recent Work
Recent projects include contributions to the Universal Natural Language Understanding initiative, developing semantic interpretation frameworks connecting Universal Dependencies with Discourse Representation Theory. His 2023 publications focus on formal semantics integration with dependency grammars and rule-based semantic parsing systems.
