About
Dr. Jamie M. Kramer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Dalhousie University's Faculty of Medicine. His research focuses on epigenetics and chromatin regulation in brain function, particularly neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism and Intellectual Disability. He holds a Canada Research Chair in Neuroepigenetics (2014-2019) and serves as Graduate Coordinator since 2022.
Education: Postdoctoral Fellow at Radboud University Medical Center (Netherlands), PhD in Biology (Memorial University, Canada), and BSc in Microbiology (University of Guelph, Canada). His lab investigates chromatin regulation mechanisms in learning, memory, and disease using Drosophila models. Key research areas include histone modification and ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complexes (e.g., SWI/SNF).
Recent work includes studies on G9a's role in stress tolerance, SETD1A haploinsufficiency in neurodevelopmental syndromes, and SWI/SNF subunit functions in neuronal gene regulation. Awards include the Canada Research Chair. Current lab members include Emily Butler (Honours Student), Abby Edison (MSc), and Neda Miandashti (PhD).
Publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches combining Drosophila behavior, transcriptomics, and bioinformatics. Lab website: kramerlab.ca.
