Jamie Clarke is a Lecturer at Southampton Solent University, where he has taught since 2003 and currently serves as Course Leader for the Foundation Year in Media. He previously led the BA (Hons) Media Culture and Production program (2007-2020) where he achieved 93-100% student satisfaction scores in National Student Surveys. His educational background includes a PhD in Film Studies and MA/BA in English Literature from the University of Sheffield.
Clarke's research explores professional communities in screen industries, examining how career ambitions and corporate strategies manifest in public relations, trade discourse, and media content. His work focuses on self-branding tactics and industry navigation strategies within media corporations. He co-convenes Solent's Contemporary Screen Studies research group and serves on the Disney Culture and Society Research Network committee.
His publications demonstrate consistent focus on media industry strategies, particularly analyzing Disney's corporate decisions through film case studies (Pixar, Ratatouille). Recent work examines globalization strategies in China and corporate allegories in animation.
