Prof. Jamie C. Fumo is a Professor in the Department of English at Florida State University (FSU), part of the College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. from Princeton University (2003), an M.A. (2001), and a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst (1998). Her research specializes in medieval English literature and culture, particularly Geoffrey Chaucer and classical reception. Fumo’s work explores textual interconnections, medieval conceptions of authorship, and the evolution of literary traditions. She has published extensively on Chaucer’s Book of the Duchess, culminating in a monograph (Making Chaucer’s Book of the Duchess, 2015) and an edited collection (Chaucer’s Book of the Duchess: Contexts and Interpretations, 2018). Current projects include Savory Work: The Poetics of Taste in Medieval England.
Her research interests span Chaucerian studies, intertextuality, classical transmission, sensory history, and culinary history. Recent publications (2018–2024) analyze topics such as culinary symbolism in medieval narratives, the role of salt in moral allegory, and Chaucer’s engagement with Ovidian traditions. Fumo has received prestigious awards, including the FSU Committee on Faculty Research Support Award (2016) and Quebec-based grants (FQRSC, 2006–2012). She is actively involved in Medieval Studies at FSU, contributing to interdisciplinary research and pedagogical innovation. Her work bridges literary analysis with cultural and historical contexts, offering fresh perspectives on medieval textualities and their modern interpretations.
