Jamie C. Barner, Ph.D., FAACP, FAPhA is a Division Head and Professor of Health Outcomes at the University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy. She holds the Clifford L. Klinck, Jr. Centennial Professor title and is the Southwestern Drug Corporation Centennial Endowed Fellow in Pharmacy, having received the Graduate Mentor of the Year Award.

Dr. Barner's research focuses on three primary areas. Her work in Real World Evidence/Medication Utilization examines medication utilization patterns (adherence, persistence, switching) and their impact on health-related outcomes using large claims databases and advanced statistical methods. In Pharmacist Services, she investigates novel approaches to pharmacist service provision and their impact on patient outcomes using mixed methods. Her research in Health Disparities focuses on diverse and marginalized populations and disease states associated with significant health disparities, including sickle cell disease, diabetes, maternal health, and mental health.
Dr. Barner's publications demonstrate a strong focus on health outcomes research, with particular emphasis on sickle cell disease, medication adherence, mental health, and health disparities. Her work often utilizes Texas Medicaid data and focuses on vulnerable populations, showing a consistent commitment to addressing healthcare inequities. She has published extensively on topics including sickle cell disease management, medication adherence patterns, mental health interventions, and gender equity in pharmacy academia.

Dr. Barner serves as Graduate Courses instructor for PGS 196S Seminar in Pharmacy, PGS 390K Experimental Design and Research Methods in Health Care, PGS 390J Data Analysis in Health Care, and PGS 390U Advanced Research Methods. She also teaches PharmD Courses including PHM 384L Pharmacy and the U.S. Health Care System and PHM 394F Principles of Pharmacoeconomics and Pharmacy Management. She has served in numerous leadership roles including Past Chair of the Social and Administrative Sciences Section of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, and as a member of the Gender Equity Task Force jointly with APhA.
