About
Dr. Jamie Alan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology at Michigan State University (MSU), affiliated with the College of Human Medicine. Her academic background includes a PharmD from Ohio Northern University (1999–2005), a PhD in Pharmacology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2005–2010), and a postdoctoral fellowship in Molecular Biosciences at the University of Kansas (2010–2013). She joined MSU in 2018 as a fixed-term Associate Professor.
Her research focuses on Neuroscience and Aging, with emphasis on neurodegenerative diseases (e.g., Alzheimer’s), cancer biology, and the metabolic pathways of polyunsaturated fatty acids. She develops methods for studying oxylipins and employs Caenorhabditis elegans as a model system to investigate Rho GTPase signaling in axon guidance and cancer mechanisms.
Dr. Alan’s recent work includes a NIH-funded project (IMPACT TEAM) addressing addiction medicine education for medical students and another studying oxylipins in neurodegeneration. She teaches graduate courses on cellular pharmacology and drug-tissue interactions. Her lab contributes to understanding how pharmacological agents and metabolic processes influence disease progression.
- Funding: National Institute on Drug Abuse (IMPACT TEAM), National Institute on Aging (Oxylipins study).
- Teaching: PHM 802 (Cellular/Molecular Pharmacology) and PHM 819 (Drug-Tissue Interactions).
Her publications span neurodegeneration mechanisms, cancer cell signaling, and drug interactions, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach to pharmacology and toxicology.
