James Rankin is Lecturer in Princeton's German Department and Director of the Princeton Center for Language Study, supporting language instructors across the university.
Developed innovative German curriculum der|die|das integrating vocabulary research with authentic materials, adopted by multiple universities. Co-authored Handbuch zur deutschen Grammatik reference text.
Research examines vocabulary acquisition, pedagogical training models, and bridging SLA theory with classroom practice.
Awarded Princeton's President's Award for Distinguished Teaching (1996).
Current projects include distance teaching resources and experiential learning in Kenya. Advises undergraduates at Whitman College.
