James Tong is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He previously directed the UCLA Center for East Asian Studies (1995–2002) and served as Director for Undergraduate Studies in the Political Science Department (1994–1997). His research focuses on Chinese Politics, political violence, civil society, gender and political participation, agency problems in China, and the Asian financial crisis.
