James Tillotson is a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University's Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering. Holding M.S. and B.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from CSU, he teaches courses in manufacturing processes, heat transfer, and thermodynamics while directing the Engineering Manufacturing Education Center (EMEC).
His research and development work includes:
- Biomass gasification for cookstoves in developing regions
- Aerospace applications of thermal-fluid systems
- Advanced manufacturing education
- Laboratory development for engineering education
Honors include the 2022 Rising Star Award and 2021 Project Management Award from CSU. He has secured over $1.4M in equipment donations for manufacturing education and developed innovative curriculum incorporating VR/AR technologies. As faculty advisor for multiple student organizations, he mentors teams in rocketry, aviation, and manufacturing initiatives.
