James Thomson

Dr James Thomson serves as an Honorary Research Fellow at Brunel University London within the School of Social and Political Sciences, Department of Politics and History, under the College of Business, Arts and Social Sciences. He concurrently holds the position of Director of Business Development EMEA at Gordian Consulting, leveraging his extensive background in operational counterterrorism intelligence.

His academic qualifications include:

• MA in Intelligence & Security
• BSc in Politics and Economics

Dr Thomson's research centers on the effective utilization of intelligence for security provision across strategic, operational, and tactical levels, with a focus on developing political-economy frameworks for governance in intelligence spheres. His work examines collaborative mechanisms in security operations, public policy formulation, institutional frictions through Transaction Cost Economics, and intelligence-policy interfaces.

He contributes to academic instruction as Module Contributor for undergraduate Intelligence and National Security (Year 3) and Course Convenor for postgraduate Counterintelligence and Security programs.
