James Strong

Dr. James Strong is a Research Fellow and Deputy Program Leader (Food Innovation) in the Faculty of Science at QUT. He holds a PhD in Chemistry from Rhodes University. His research focuses on applied biotechnology, particularly fermentation processes, biomass conversion, and fungal biotechnology for industrial and environmental applications. He lectures courses in 'Natures Pharmacy' and 'Forensic Biology & Analytical Toxicology.'

Key projects include bioconversion of agro-industrial residues into fungal proteins, mycoremediation, and valorization of wastes (e.g., avocado, chilli, brewing by-products). He has secured grants for projects like 'Fungal Fibre Composites' and 'Biorefineries for Profit.' His work spans microbiology, environmental engineering, and industrial biotechnology.

Publications highlight fungal metabolite analysis, microbial community dynamics, and novel bioprocesses. He collaborates widely in Australia and internationally, contributing to sustainable solutions for food systems and waste management.
