James Stolen is a Senior Lecturer II in the English/Writing Program at Eastern Oregon University. His roles include teaching creative writing and literature, and he actively participates in the Outdoor Activities Program and Summer Bridge initiatives. He holds a BA in English from Carleton College (2006), with overseas study in England (2004) and Ireland (2005), as well as an MFA in Creative Writing from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (2013).
His research and creative interests span creative writing, literature analysis, and environmental writing, informed by his adventurous lifestyle and exploration of Eastern Oregon's landscapes. He has published in esteemed literary journals such as Callaloo Review, Shenandoah, and Bellevue Literary Review, and is currently developing a novel and a collection of essays.
Stolen’s work bridges academic writing and experiential learning, leveraging his Peace Corps experience in Lesotho (2006–2008) and his passion for outdoor education. He maintains a strong presence in campus initiatives, fostering student engagement through interdisciplinary approaches.
