James Spicer is Professor of Experimental Cancer Medicine at King's College London's Comprehensive Cancer Centre. He leads the King's Health Partners Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre and chairs the UK Paediatric ECMC National Network.
His research focuses on Phase I trials of novel anticancer agents, discovery of new immunotherapies, and clinical development of therapies for lung cancer and mesothelioma. His work integrates translational approaches to evaluate treatment efficacy and immune responses.
Professor Spicer has co-authored over 230 publications on cancer therapeutics, including studies on COVID-19 sequelae in collaboration with national consortia. His recent investigations examine immune aging in severe COVID-19 and determinants of recovery from post-COVID dyspnea through prospective cohort studies.
He serves on multiple national committees including the Cancer Research UK Protocol Safety Review Board and the British Thoracic Oncology Group Steering Committee.
