James O’Callaghan is a Professor of Architectural Glass at Delft University of Technology’s Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment. He leads the Glass & Transparency Research Group, focusing on pushing boundaries in materiality, performance, and aesthetics of architectural glass. His research explores innovations like cast glass bricks, ultra-thin glass, and laminated glass structures.
Prof. O’Callaghan has over 20 years of professional experience as a structural and façade engineer, co-founding Eckersley O’Callaghan. He has designed iconic glass elements for Apple Stores worldwide. Previously, he was a Visiting Professor at TU Delft (2015–2016) and taught at the University of Portsmouth.
- Awards: Includes the Milne Medal (2016), Phoenix Award (2017), Royal Academy of Engineering Fellowship (2018), and IStructE Gold Medal (2019).
