James Noggle

James Noggle is a Professor of English at Wellesley College since 1995, specializing in 18th-century British literature, literary theory, and Milton studies. He holds a B.A. from Columbia University and a Ph.D. from University of California, Berkeley.

His research explores the intersections of affect, Enlightenment thought, and literary form. Current projects include Magic Letters, investigating the origins of 'literature' as a concept in the 18th century.

Recent publications include Unfelt: The Language of Affect in the British Enlightenment (2020) and The Temporality of Taste (2012). His work frequently addresses colonialism, gender, and political critique in literature.
