Dr. James Moore is a Lecturer in Archaeology at the Archaeology Institute, Orkney College UHI. He holds a PhD from the University of the Highlands & Islands (2014) and a BA from the University of Southampton (2002). His research focuses on landscape archaeology, integrating geophysical survey, phenomenological approaches, and artistic practices to explore prehistoric and medieval landscapes in Atlantic Scotland. He leads the MSc Archaeological Practice program and teaches modules including Landscape Archaeology and Geophysical Survey Techniques.
Key projects include the Yesnaby Art & Archaeology Research Project (2015–ongoing) and the Heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site surveys (2002–2014). His team won the Current Archaeology Book of the Year 2022 for Landscapes Revealed. Moore actively engages in public outreach through exhibitions, lectures, and collaborative art initiatives.
