James McComish is a Lecturer at Melbourne Law School and a practising barrister at the Victorian Bar, specialising in commercial and public law. His expertise includes equity and trusts, insurance, and cross-border disputes. He holds a law degree from the University of Melbourne (first-class honours) and a doctorate in history from the University of Oxford. Previously, he taught law at the University of Cambridge as a Fellow of Selwyn College and worked as an Associate at Allens in commercial litigation. He served as an Associate to Justice Gummow of the High Court of Australia in 2007.
His academic contributions include editing the Melbourne University Law Review and reporting for the Commonwealth Law Reports. He is also the Honorary Correspondent for the Selden Society in Victoria.
