James Mayer

James Mayer is a Senior Fellow and Adjunct Professor at the McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific, Sacramento. With a career spanning journalism, public administration, and nonprofit leadership, he brings extensive practical experience to his academic role. Notably, Professor Mayer co-founded California Forward in 2007 and led the organization as President and CEO for 12 years. Under his leadership, California Forward achieved notable successes including election system reforms to reduce partisan gridlock, fiscal stability measures, and collaborative partnerships with local governments to improve service delivery.
