James Mahon is Professor of Philosophy and Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities at Lehman College (CUNY). He holds a B.A. from Trinity College Dublin, M.Phil. from Cambridge, and Ph.D. from Duke University. His research focuses on moral philosophy, historical ethics (early modern period), and the ethics of lying/deception. Visiting positions include Cambridge, Princeton, Yale Law School, and Yale's Ethics, Politics, and Economics program.
Publications analyze coercion-deception asymmetries, Kantian approaches to the Trolley Problem, and literary truth-telling. Recent work critiques ethical frameworks through political philosophy and narrative theory. Teaching emphasizes Socratic dialogue and applied ethics.
