James Hansen

James Hansen serves as a Professor of Accounting at Weber State University's Goddard School of Business & Economics, where he joined the faculty in fall 2013. He held the position of department chair from 2019 until stepping down on June 30, 2024, following his service as Academic Fellow in the Office of the Chief Accountant at the Securities and Exchange Commission during the 2018-2019 academic year.

Dr. Hansen earned his PhD in Accounting from the University of Georgia Terry College of Business in 2004, along with both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Accounting from Brigham Young University in 1999. He is also a Certified Public Accountant licensed in New Mexico.

Hansen's research focuses on audit quality and detection of earnings management, with scholarly contributions spanning multiple prestigious accounting journals. His teaching portfolio includes Financial Statement Analysis, Introductory Auditing, and Advanced Auditing courses for both undergraduate and Master of Accounting programs at GSBE.

His scholarly work has been published across a range of respected academic venues including Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory, Current Issues in Auditing, Journal of Accounting Literature, Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, Journal of Portfolio Management, and The CPA Journal, demonstrating consistent contributions to accounting research over his career.

Professor Hansen teaches across the accounting curriculum in both undergraduate and graduate programs, specializing in auditing and financial statement analysis.
