James Garth

James Garth is an Associate Research Professor in the Department of Chemical & Biological Engineering at Montana State University (MSU). He leads the Medical Biofilms Laboratory (MBL) at the Center for Biofilm Engineering, overseeing project development, personnel management, and interdisciplinary collaborations. With over 25 years of experience in bacteriology and biofilm research, he has managed NIH-funded grants and directed biofilm research for over 30 companies, including SBIR projects.

His research focuses on medical biofilms, employing advanced techniques like confocal microscopy, molecular microbiology, and proteomics. The MBL is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including biofilm growth reactors, imaging tools, and molecular analysis systems. Garth's work bridges fundamental research and industry applications, addressing challenges in chronic infections and antimicrobial resistance.

His contributions have been highlighted in MSU news, including a 2019 article on chronic wound treatments and a 2018 update on the annual biofilm commercialization conference hosted at MSU.
