James Delgado

James Delgado is an Adjunct Professor at Simon Fraser University's Department of Archaeology. He holds a PhD from SFU (2006) with specialization in maritime archaeology, focusing on gold rush-era San Francisco's submerged ships and cargoes. His research emphasizes maritime networks' role in the global economy (1700-1900), naval advancements, and deep-water shipwrecks, including projects like the Clotilda (the last known slave ship to the US).

He has conducted fieldwork on diverse sites including Arctic exploration vessels, WWII ships, Titanic, and atomic test wrecks at Bikini Atoll. Currently leads archaeological study of Clotilda. Professionally, he serves as senior advisor/commentator for National Geographic's Drain the Oceans, and hosted The Sea Hunters. Has authored over 30 books/articles, including children's volumes to bridge historical understanding across generations.
