James D. Thompson

James D. Thompson is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Management Department of The Wharton School and the School of Social Policy and Practice, University of Pennsylvania.

Education:

Research Interests: Dr. Thompson’s scholarly work focuses on social entrepreneurship, social innovation, and strategic investment under high uncertainty. His research explores frameworks for building future markets and driving sustainable growth in volatile environments.

Advising & Professional Roles: Dr. Thompson teaches in Wharton’s flagship Advanced Management Program and collaborates with global management teams on strategic growth initiatives. He currently serves on the executive board of a venture capital-funded technology company in Philadelphia and previously led business unit turnarounds as a divisional director in the corporate sector.
