James Crowley

James Crowley, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Genetics at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and holds an adjunct position in Psychiatry. He earned a BS in Biology from Cornell University and a PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Pennsylvania, followed by postdoctoral training in Genetics at Duke University. His research focuses on psychiatric genomics, including molecular genetic, epidemiological, and twin studies of disorders like OCD, Tourette syndrome, schizophrenia, and anorexia nervosa.

Dr. Crowley collaborates internationally with institutions such as the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden and Nordic countries. Recent grants include an AFSP Focus Grant (2024) for suicide prediction research and an NIMH R13 grant for organizing the Latin American Congress on OCD. He has authored over 118 publications, emphasizing genomic discoveries in neuropsychiatric disorders and cross-cultural genetic studies.
