James Caton is an Associate Professor of Dance at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama, where he teaches dance within the acting/music theater program. He is a former dancer with prominent ballet companies, including Ballet Metropolitan, Eglevsky Ballet, Metropolitan Opera Ballet, Chicago Ballet, and Florida Ballet, performing principal and soloist roles in works like Romeo and Juliet, La Sylphide, and Allegro Brillante. He also serves as a choreographer for plays, musicals, and cabarets such as Kiss Me Kate, As You Like It, and Assassins.
His creative work includes the Moon Ballet, part of the Moon Ark project, which has been exhibited globally. He trained at the New York School of Ballet on a full scholarship under Richard Thomas and Barbara Fallis.
