James Braziel is an Associate Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where he teaches Fiction and Creative Nonfiction. His research and creative work focus on Southern literature, rural life, and environmental themes in the near-future South. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing: Fiction from Bowling Green State University.
Notable publications include his 2024 poetry collection Glass Cabin (coauthored with Tina Mozelle Braziel), the award-winning short story collection This Ditch-Walking Love, and novels Birmingham, 35 Miles and Snakeskin Road. His writing has appeared in op-eds, including a 2011 New York Times piece on Alabama tornadoes.
