James Belich is a retired Beit Professor of Global and Imperial History affiliated with Balliol College, University of Oxford. His research focuses on global history, settler societies, and European expansionism. He has held roles including DPhil supervisor and teaches courses on imperial and global history (1750-1914).
Research interests include the origins of West Eurasian expansionism, the Black Death's global impact, and the intersection of race, imperialism, and colonialism. His work spans medieval to modern eras, emphasizing comparative analysis across regions.
