James Andrew Whitaker is Honorary Research Fellow in Social Anthropology at University of St Andrews and CNRS researcher studying Amazonian ethnohistory and ontologies. Fieldwork focuses on Makushi and Akawaio communities in Guyana.
Research examines cultural constructions of climate change, shamanic tourism practices, and plant agency concepts. Current projects analyze how Indigenous communities interpret environmental changes through relational landscape ontologies.
Authored 'Climatic and ecological change in the Americas' and preparing volumes on Amazonian sorcery practices. Expanding fieldwork to West Africa.
