James A. MacKenzie is Professor and Department Chair of Biological Sciences at SUNY Oswego. He holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Medicine from Wake Forest University, M.S. in Biology from Western Carolina University, and B.S. in Biology from SUNY Fredonia.
Research areas include:
- Environmental heavy metals and cardiovascular changes in children
- Effects of PCBs on aquatic organisms
- Intracellular protein trafficking to mitochondria
- Specialty areas: molecular/cellular biology, physiology, human health
He has supervised numerous undergraduate and graduate researchers in environmental health projects. Publications demonstrate expertise in:
- Linking environmental exposures to cardiovascular and neurological outcomes
- Developing biomarkers for heavy metal exposure
- Stress physiology and environmental toxicology interactions
Recent work focuses on perfluoroalkyl substances and metal mixtures in child populations. Methodologies include biomonitoring, proteomics, and physiological assessments.
