Jakub Banasiak is an Assistant Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Faculty of Artistic Research and Curatorial Studies. His research focuses on the state art system during the socialist period and Polish art of the post-communist transformation era (1980s–1990s). He authored the book Proteous Times. The Decay of the State Art System 1982–1993 (2020), which earned a nomination for the Jan Długosz Award. Banasiak serves as a member of the editorial board of the academic journal Miejsce and is editor-in-chief of the art magazine Szum (with K. Plinta). He curated the exhibition Tectonic Movements at the Museum of Art in Łódź (2022), showcasing his research on Polish art during the 1980s and 1990s.
