Jakob Wallinga

Jakob Wallinga is a Professor at the Department of Soil Geography and Landscape, Wageningen University & Research. His research focuses on luminescence dating techniques, fluvial geomorphology, and Holocene environmental changes, with a strong emphasis on human-landscape interactions and sediment dynamics. He leads projects on coastal resilience, river delta evolution, and archaeological geochronology.

Key research interests include luminescence signal analysis, sediment transport modeling, and the application of geochronological methods to study anthropogenic impacts on landscapes. He has supervised multiple PhD candidates investigating topics such as river avulsion patterns and peatland geochronology.

Recent work includes studies on subaqueous bleaching effects in coastal environments and the use of single-grain feldspar luminescence to trace sediment provenance. His projects often involve international collaborations, such as in Peru and Nepal, exploring luminescence approaches to reconstruct long-term environmental changes.
