Dr. Jakob Heuschmidt is a Lecturer for Special Assignments at the University of Leipzig’s Chair of Pedagogy (focus on emotional & social development), where he has taught and supervised internships since 2014. He also served as research assistant in the Faculty of Education Dean’s Office (2019-2020) and received his doctorate in 2020.
Education:
- Teacher-training degree for special-needs schools, University of Leipzig (2004-2010)
- Teaching traineeship (Referendariat) in Saxony-Anhalt (2012-2013)
- Doctorate (Dr. paed.) on adolescents’ future plans at special schools (2020)
Research focus: Heuschmidt’s work spans three complementary strands: (1) future perspectives of young people in special-education settings, (2) critical analysis of classroom digitalisation (smartboard hype), and (3) planning and evaluating accessibility measures for large cultural events.
Teaching & outreach: He designs and leads seminars on observation-based support, individual learning plans, counselling, and school-type-specific pedagogy for emotional & social development, and has delivered continuing-education courses for teachers since 2015.
Committee service: Long-standing memberships include the extended Senate, Faculty Council, multiple appointment and doctoral committees, examination boards, and the Studentenwerk Leipzig administrative board.
Doctoral supervision: Currently supervising Annett Steinmann and Wolfgang Ellmauer.
