Jake Hawes

Jake Hawes is an Assistant Professor at the University of Wyoming’s School of Computing and Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources. His research focuses on interdisciplinary approaches at the intersection of computing, social sciences, and environmental systems. He holds a PhD in Environment and Sustainability (University of Michigan), an MS in Natural Resources Social Science (Purdue University), and a BS in Environmental and Ecological Engineering (Purdue University).

Research interests include AI-driven climate adaptation policies, critical infrastructure resilience, natural hazards, and urban agriculture. His lab employs mixed methods to model coupled natural-human systems, such as community adaptive capacity and spatial planning. He retains a joint appointment at Idaho National Laboratory’s Critical Infrastructure Security division.

Teaching: New courses on computing and sustainability will launch in Fall 2025 for undergraduates and graduates.

Outreach: Long-time contributor to Skype a Scientist. Engages K-12 educators and community groups on environmental topics via email.
