Jake Edwards serves as an Associate Teaching Fellow in the Department of Film and Television Studies at the University of Warwick, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules across film and television disciplines.
He earned his BA (2015), MA (2016), and PhD (2021) in Film and Television Studies from Warwick, with doctoral research supervised by Dr. Michael Pigott and Prof. Karl Schoonover. His thesis "Unidentified Flying Objects, Photographic Aesthetics, and Moving Images" examines how UFO imagery disrupts representational conventions and challenges photographic epistemology.
Dr. Edwards' research centers on intersections of photographic aesthetics and moving images, with expertise in Horror and Gothic genres, Animation, and epistemological frameworks. His work critically engages with unconventional visual subjects like UFOs within media theory.
Current teaching includes leading "Two Filmmakers" and "Horror and the Gothic in Film and Television," with seminar tutoring for "Art of Animation" and "Transnational Action Cinema." Previously, he convened the MA module "Photographic Media: Aesthetics and Epistemologies" and taught core courses including "Film Theory," "Post-Classical Hollywood," and "Theories of the Moving Image."
