Jahangir Rastegar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stony Brook University since 1987. His career spans over 24 years with prior roles at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and engineering firms in the steel industry. He holds a B.S. from Southern Methodist University (1969), M.S. and Ph.D. from Stanford University (1972, 1976).
Research focuses on kinematics, dynamics, vibration control, and smart materials-based actuators for high-speed machinery. His work addresses precision machinery design, vibration isolation/damping technologies, and active/passive control systems.
