About
Jacques P. Lesure is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Education at Brown University. His research focuses on how nonprofit and community-based organizations address racial and economic inequality through education, examining how knowledge is legitimized and used to define accountability in these contexts. He holds a Master’s and Ph.D. in Educational Policy Studies from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
Lesure’s work critiques dominant narratives of racial progress and explores tensions between institutional frameworks and marginalized voices. His doctoral research analyzed a workforce development nonprofit serving Black men, highlighting conflicts between exposure-based pedagogy and students’ demands for engagement with gender and sexuality issues. He advocates for reimagining evaluation practices to be more liberatory and responsive.
He has served as a culturally responsive evaluator with the National Science Foundation and currently teaches at Brown, with office hours on Wednesdays 1–3pm. His interdisciplinary approach bridges educational policy, critical race theory, and organizational studies.
