Dr. Jacques Malherbe is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the School of Biomedical Sciences, University of Western Australia (UWA), and currently serves as a Senior Haematology Registrar/Advanced Trainee at Fiona Stanley Hospital in Perth. He holds an Adjunct Clinical Lecturer appointment with UWA since 2019, focusing on translational research in haematological malignancies. His expertise spans megakaryocyte biology, myeloproliferative neoplasms, and leukaemias, with over 100 citations in his research.
Education: BSc (Neuroscience & Pathology) from UWA (2012); BMSc (Hons.) with first-class honours (2013); MD (Distinction) (2017). He has practiced clinical medicine in Western Australia since 2018.
Research interests include megakaryocyte pathobiology, myelofibrosis, and the application of digital pathology for haematology diagnostics. He leads the Translational Cancer Pathology Laboratory at UWA and collaborates internationally. His work addresses critical challenges in haematology, such as diagnostics, treatment efficacy, and patient outcomes in stem cell transplants.
Teaching: Provides haematology lectures in PATH3309 (Cancer Pathology) and has supervised four MD students in scholarly research. Awards include multiple Basic Physician Training Excellence Awards (2022–2024) and a 2020 Junior Doctor of the Month award.
Labs/Teams: Affiliated with the Translational Cancer Pathology Laboratory at UWA. His research group explores novel biomarkers and therapeutic strategies for haematological disorders.
