About
Jacopo Boschini is a researcher at the Department of Humanities, Ca' Foscari University of Venice, focusing on archaeological studies of the Ottoman Empire. His work centers on the Tell Zeyd Archaeological Project and the Near Eastern Empires at Work (NEEW) initiative, examining economic and societal impacts of tobacco production and trade in Ottoman provinces. He collaborates with supervisors Cristina Tonghini (University of Udine) and Valentina Vezzoli (University of Udine), and is funded by MIUR PRIN and the Fondation Max van Berchem.
Current Research:
- Tell Zeyd Archaeological Project (2022–2025): Investigates tobacco production and material culture in Northern Iraq as Lead Developer (LD).
- Near Eastern Empires at Work (NEEW) (2022–2024): Analyzes imperial organization and local societal impacts as Project Team (PT) member.
Publications: His 2023 and 2025 works on Ottoman smoking pipes and rural settlements highlight interdisciplinary approaches to archaeology and economic history in the Near East.
