Jacob Hogue

Jacob Hogue, M.D., is a Colonel in the U.S. Army and currently serves as Chief of the Department of Clinical Investigation and Chief of Genetics at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA. He also chairs the Bioethics Board and Performance Improvement Committee.

• Education: Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (M.D., 2001-2005), University of California, San Francisco (Medical Genetics Residency, 2008-2011), and Valparaiso University (B.S. in Chemistry and Biology, 1997-2001).

His research focuses on the etiology and management of genetic disorders such as multiple congenital anomaly syndromes, autism, and intellectual disability, particularly those with military relevance. He is the sole Medical Geneticist on the U.S. West Coast, providing clinical care for genetic conditions across all age groups.

The most recent 10 publications span topics including battlefield medicine, RASopathies, chromosomal mosaicism, and craniofacial genetic syndromes. Notable themes include pandemic response strategies, protein N-terminal acetylation mechanisms, and the clinical implications of GLIS3 mutations.

Throughout his career, Dr. Hogue has led key institutional bodies such as the Madigan Army Medical Center Institutional Review Board (2016-2022) and served as Associate Program Director for Pediatrics Residency (2015-2021). He has participated in military operations including Operation Border Security (2018) and Operation Enduring Freedom (2012).

Dr. Hogue oversees the Madigan Department of Clinical Investigation, managing laboratory facilities, research personnel, and scholarly activities. His role includes promoting external funding acquisition and research education for military medical personnel.
